FAQ

Issue with updating OpenVPN files under Windows

Windows may retain old OpenVPN files even after uninstalling/reinstalling the VPN client. This can explain why your VPN no longer works after an update of these files by the CRI team.

In this case, in your file explorer, go to C:\Users\<my-user>\OpenVPN\config\ and delete existing entries, then retrieve the connection configuration

Who can use the ISIMA VPN?

  • Students

  • Engineering students in all three years.

  • Master 1st year
  • Master 2nd year

    • International of computer science
    • Software engineering
    • Information systems and decision support
  • ISIMA and LIMOS staff.

Can I open multiple simultaneous connections?

No. Only one device can be connected per user.

For example, if your smartphone uses a VPN connection, you will not be able to establish a tunnel with your desktop PC: after authentication, you will be disconnected. No error message will be displayed.

Can't request assigned address

This message sometimes appears under macOS, and you cannot connect. This is a known bug, not yet fixed by Apple. The solution is to restart the session.

Can I use the VPN from within ISIMA?

No, because it consumes resources unnecessarily. The VPN is intended for external use only.

Issue with resolving internal DNS names

OpenVPN profiles adapt more or less well depending on the operating system. Resolving internal DNS names on Archlinux can sometimes be problematic, for example.

You must install the package:

  • openvpn-systemd-resolved (Ubuntu/Debian)
  • openvpn-update-systemd-resolved (Archlinux)
