Population Group Management

Presentation and Principles

The various actors within ISIMA and LIMOS are organized into population groups to inherit permissions (access rights to services such as the GitLab forge, inclusion in mailing lists, etc.).

These actors include:

  • ISIMA members: faculty, external faculty, administrative staff, etc.
  • LIMOS members: researchers, PhD students, research support staff, etc.
  • Students: FISE, FISA, Prep_isima, master's, bachelor's
  • External individuals interacting with ISIMA or LIMOS: LIMOS contributors, external faculty, interns, external students

Administrative staff from ISIMA and LIMOS, as well as faculty, can now manage these groups (based on their permissions) via the internal software my.isima.fr.

This software, among other functions, serves as an administration tool for the ISIMA/LIMOS information system

The group management section described in the following documentation is not accessible to students, PhD students, or external individuals.

There are a large number of groups due to the granularity required for mailing lists.

To simplify management, a group nesting system allows individuals who are members of a group to inherit not only its permissions but also those of its parent groups.

For example, Ms. Durand is registered as a member of a child group:

She will have access to the services of the child group (e.g., GitLab forge) and the services of the parent group (e.g., mail, VPN).

Similarly, she will be part of both the child mailing list (fils@listes.isima.fr) and the parent mailing list (parent@listes.isima.fr).

Example 1: Group Management

Some groups are also mailing lists, while others are not.

Some groups may not contain any direct members but only inherit members from parent groups.

Tips

Technically, services and mailing lists are also groups. Some groups were created by UCA (dark green icon), while others were created by us (light green icon).

Group Directory Homepage

In MY, you can access groups by clicking the Directory and Groups tabs at the top of the page.

Your Homepage

Upon accessing the directory, you land on your homepage, symbolized by a house icon home-button. This allows you to return to this page at any time.

You will see a list of groups you manage. You can click on a group to view its members and properties. (In this example, the logged-in user manages 13 mailing lists.) Groups are divided into broad subcategories for better readability.

You can toggle between displaying groups by their name or by the name of their associated mailing list (if applicable) using this button !MY group name display switch.

Searching for a Group in MY

You can search for a group by its name (even if incomplete). The search is case-insensitive and accent-insensitive.

To do this, simply type your search query in the search bar at the top of the page.
